Fitchburg Firefighters Climb to the Top

Fitchburg Fire Department members recently participated in the American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air Climb.” This event consisted of climbing up 47 floors (1,034 steps) at the US Bank building in Milwaukee, WI. Each firefighter wore their personal protective equipment, including their air pack.

2011: Another Fire Fatality Free Year

The City of Fitchburg once again ended the calendar year with no fatalities related to fires. It's the second year in a row in which fire has claimed no lives in the City. The single fire fatality in the last three years occurred in July, 2009; when a woman died in a apartment fire in the 3600 block of Breckenridge Court. This fire broke a streak of 32 years without a fire fatality with the first fatality being recorded in 1977, in a apartment fire on Post Road.

Fire Truck Parade October 9th

The Annual Dane County Fire Chiefs Association Fire Truck Parade is taking place Sunday, October 9, 2011.
This popular event is held each year to mark the beginning of Fire Prevention Week in Dane County. The parade includes nearly 40 fire trucks from many of the Dane County Fire Departments.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 9. The gleaming trucks will start their journey at the intersection of State Street and Lake Street and proceed up State Street to the Capitol Square. Once at the Square, the fire trucks will be on display until 3:00 PM for children of all ages to meet the firefighters and sit on the fire trucks.

Firefighters Wear Pink

You may have seen your firefighters wearing pink recently and you may see this the rest of the month. Yes, that is their uniform. In fact, the fire department is in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Department has adopted pink t-shirts as part of its standard uniform for the rest of the month. The move is part of a program initiated by International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 311 Charities in cooperation with the Department's Command Staff.

The charity arm of the union is selling the shirts to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation - Madison Chapter, with all proceeds staying local. Purchase of the shirts by Department personnel is voluntary.

FITCHBURG FIRE FIGHTERS COLLECT OVER $20,100 IN THEIR FIRE BOOTS

FITCHBURG, Wis., August 15, 2011—The Fitchburg fire fighters, Fitch-Rona EMS and Local #311 fire fighters teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association last week in the battle against neuromuscular disease, and raised over $20,000 for the organization.

The International Association of Fire Fighters’ Fill-the-Boot campaign for MDA is a time-honored summer fund-raising tradition. Each year, members of hundreds of IAFF locals across the country invite the public at intersections, malls and sporting events to fill a fire fighter’s boot with donations for MDA. FIREFIGHTERS CLIMB STAIRS TO HELP FIGHT LUNG CANCER

Each year, the American Lung Association holds a fund raising race at the US Bank Building in Milwaukee. In an effort to further raise awareness of the event and generate donations, the Firefighter Challenge was created to encourage firefighters to help in the fund raising efforts. Five Fitchburg Companies Nominated for Wisconsin Corporate Safety Awards

The Fitchburg Fire Department is very privileged to work with a number of very progressive and safety conscious companies within our city. The following five companies have been nominated for the Wisconsin Corporate Safety Awards by the Fitchburg Fire Department: Avante Properties, HospiceCare Inc., Madison Gas and Electric, Placon Corporation, and Promega Corporation.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms/Detectors Required in One and Two Family Dwellings; Effective February 1, 2011

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning in the United States. The Wisconsin Legislature acted in 2010 to create statutory language requiring carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in all new and existing one and two family dwellings effective February 01, 2011. 6 Firefighters Promoted to Lieutenant

The Fitchburg Fire Department has announced the promotion of six firefighters to the rank of lieutenant (l to r ): Dave Berman, Jeff Baumgartner, Jeff Berman, Wade Nachreiner, Steve Wunsch, and Rob Kunze. The promotions went into effect on Nov. 15. The new lieutenants will take part in a public swearing-in ceremony during the Fitchburg City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11.
