The mission the Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard:
- The City of Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard will serve our department, community and other public safety agencies with utmost pride, honor, and integrity.
- Our dedication shall be displayed though discipline, professionalism, and respect for our craft.
- We will be here to give honors to a fallen brother or sister and assist the family in coordination of services as necessary. We will also offer our services to other agencies upon request.
- We will strive to raise public awareness of fire service traditions, through public interactions including presentations, parades, and ceremonies.
The Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard is currently comprised of approximately 15 members of the department. These members, with the support of the Fire Chief, the Department and the Fire-Rescue Association, want to provide a way to honor fallen firefighters, their families, and department members - past and present - and pay our last respects to our brothers and sisters in our firefighting family.
The Honor Guard represents the Fitchburg Fire Department, and our city, at funerals, memorial services and any other function authorized/requested by the Chief of the department or his designee. By participating in events as a well trained professional team at local and national events, the Honor Guard will project a positive image of the Fitchburg Fire Departments and its members. We will also respond to requests from both current and retired Fire Department members as well as assisting law enforcement and emergency medical services agencies.
The Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard is funded by private donations. These donations will contribute significantly to the purchasing of uniforms and equipment such as our flags, flag harnesses, flag poles and presentation axes for parades and ceremonies and other necessary supplies.
Our goal is to represent Fire Department and the City of Fitchburg, in the highest degree of professionalism, dedication, loyalty; with as much honor and dignity as possible. While serving as ambassadors of our entire community, we will strive to honor the fallen, in life, as well as death.
One of our long-term goals is to send a group of our members to the National Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial Ceremony, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in 5 years. During this ceremony, each firefighter that has fallen in the line of duty is remembered and honored during the service.
In addition to funerals and memorial services our honor guard may be called upon to:
- Post colors at various events
- March in parades
- Attend new firehouse openings
- Attend social functions
- Assist other fire departments with firefighters’ funerals
- Assist families during a time of need
- Other Public Appearances
Members of our Guard come from the Career, Paid-On-Call, and Paid-On-Premises staff of the department. All honor guard members donate their time to attend all events, trainings, and meetings. Each member has made a three year commitment along with a personal contribution to the cost of their uniform.
The members of the Honor Guard include:
|Lt. Robert Kunze - Commander||Firefighter Adam Dorn - Vice Commander||Lt. Dave Berman - Secretary/Treasurer|
|Firefighter Andrew Brandl||Firefighter Michael Carbonara||Firefighter Dana Collins|
|Firefighter Derick Frisch||Firefighter Brian Hageman||Firefighter Chuck Henry|

It is the our goal to raise $12,000 in donations; which will cover the initial costs of training, equipment, and uniforms of the Honor Guard Members. It is our immediate goal to have the funds raised and the Honor Guard fully uniformed and equipped by July 21, 2012. Also, each member of the honor guard has made a personal donation towards the cost of their uniform in addition to their three year commitment.
