About the Honor GuardHonorGuardPatch

The Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard is currently comprised of approximately 15 members of the department. These members, with the support of the Fire Chief, the Department and the Fire-Rescue Association, want to provide a way to honor fallen firefighters, their families, and department members - past and present - and pay our last respects to our brothers and sisters in our firefighting family.

The Honor Guard represents the Fitchburg Fire Department, and our city, at funerals, memorial services and any other function authorized/requested by the Chief of the department or his designee. By participating in events as a well trained professional team at local and national events, the Honor Guard will project a positive image of the Fitchburg Fire Departments and its members. We will also respond to requests from both current and retired Fire Department members as well as assisting law enforcement and emergency medical services agencies.

The Fitchburg Fire Department Honor Guard is funded by private donations. These donations will contribute significantly to the purchasing of uniforms and equipment such as our flags, flag harnesses, flag poles and presentation axes for parades and ceremonies and other necessary supplies.

Goals of the Guard

Our goal is to represent Fire Department and the City of Fitchburg, in the highest degree of professionalism, dedication, loyalty; with as much honor and dignity as possible. While serving as ambassadors of our entire community, we will strive to honor the fallen, in life, as well as death.

One of our long-term goals is to send a group of our members to the National Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial Ceremony, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in 5 years. During this ceremony, each firefighter that has fallen in the line of duty is remembered and honored during the service.
