Farmland Preservation Plan & Zoning Ordinance
The City of Fitchburg updated its Farmland Preservation Plan and Farmland Preservation Zoning Ordinance in 2011 and 2012. Both the Plan and the Zoning Ordinance have been certified by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP). The City's Plan is technically a chapter in the Dane County Farmland Preservation Plan, also certified by DATCP. The City's Farmland Preservation Zoning Ordinance applies to all lands in the City's Exclusive Agriculture (A-X) Zoning District.
DATCP certification of the Plan and Zoning Ordinance enables qualifying landowners in the City to be eligible for the State of Wisconsin Farmland Preservation Tax Credit Various lands in the City were re-zoned as part of the Plan and Zoning Ordinance update.
