Huegel-Jamestown Park Master Plan
This fall, the City of Fitchburg and the City of Madison will be kicking off a master plan process for the jointly owned Jamestown Park. Neighbors will have the opportunity to provide their input regarding the park master plan. Check back later for project updates.

The Fitchburg Optimist Club is working with the City on the proposed splash pad in McKee Farms Park for 2013. This splash pad will be similar to the one built in Middleton (shown right). Visit fitchburgsplashpad.com for more information or to make a donation.

-Installation of open air shelter next to Kids Crossing
-Additional lighting along path
-Installation of 2 skate pond light poles and timer
McGaw Park Improvements
As a result of the McGaw Park Master Plan (2012), the city will complete the first phase of implementing park improvements in 2013. This will include the following:
-Installation of recreation path east of access driveway from Lacy Road to interior parking lots
-Installation of lighting in lower parking lot and along new shared use path
-Re-construction of ½ basketball court to a full court
Quarry Hill Park
The city is undergoing a pilot project to clean up the old fencelines around the park and restore them with native plants. The removal of fencing, debris, invasive understory plants and poor quality trees along the east and south fencelines has been completed. A city crew will be adding soil and planting no-mow grass in these areas. The city will also be working with neighbors to develop a planting plan this spring and begin implementation this fall.
City Tree Preservation Ordinance
Staff is currently working on a draft City Tree Preservation Ordinance. The scope of the ordinance should cover projects undertaken by the City on public land and should also include work by utility companies, private residential, commercial or industrial projects. The ordinance will regulate tree preservation, replacement and new planting. It shall include provisions for education or enforcement.
ADOPTED PLANS

In January 2012, the City of Fitchburg adopted the McGaw Park Master Plan. The Fitchburg Parks and Planning Departments worked with the Park Commission to create a plan that reflects the input and feedback of citizens and park users. The City will begin implementing Phase 1 of the plan in 2013.
Conceptual Park & Open Space Proposal
The Proposal is a comprehensive study of Fitchburg’s natural, cultural, and historical resources, and a recommendation of areas to be considered for future parks, recreation facilities, and protected open space.
Comprehensive Park, Open Space, and Recreation Plan 2010-2015
