The Fitchburg Fire department has four classifications of Firefighters; Career (full-time), Paid On-Call (part-time), Paid On-Premisis (part-time), and Fire Science Intern (part-time). 

Career Firefighter - The recruitment process for this position is currently closed.  Applications are only accepted when openings exist.

Paid On-Call Firefighter - The Fitchburg Fire Department is holding an informational meeting for individuals living in or near Fitchburg who are interested in becoming paid-on-call firefighters.

No previous experience or training is needed; only the willingness to make the commitment to learn and serve.

Paid On-Premises Firefighter - Continuous Recruitment. Designed for firefighters already associated with a department, there is no residency requirement. POP firefighters fill open shifts.

Fire Science Intern - This two year program is for individuals that have been accepted into the Madison College Fire Science Program. Applications are typically accepted in March of each year, with the new class of Interns beginning in June.
